Staying at Creekside is like having your own State Park. Located less 7/10th's (walk or drive) lies a gem of a spring fed lake. Bring a boat, there's a community boat launch. Approaching the home from the road, this was taken at about the 1/2 way point. Looking straight out the front. From the back deck towards the "Fern Garden Deck." Looking from the left rear corner of the home towards the creek. Let's head over to the Fern Deck. There are two ways down to the creek, this is the steeper one. The other is much easier. Take the trail down to the creek, or as mentioned take the easier trail. One of the first things you'll see is the erosion created by the spring. It's odd to see it disappear again into the ground. A close up look at the spring. It's rare for it to quit running. As mentioned, the spring is very consistent. I've never seen it close to dry. There are small bridges and benches scattered around the property. I love the fern groves. The temperature seems considerably cooler in these areas. We call this the conjoined tree. It has a dead trunk connected by a large root to a thriving tree trunk.. As we get down the hill to the creek we come upon the bridge. Cross it and take the dirt road right for a walk or left to get to the lake. Let's check out the lake This picture is the dam, I recommend driving here as the main road can get busy. An area at the dam where people fish. The donut. The lake is like a big bathtub. It' stays pretty full since it's not a dam that releases water. The cleared area to the right is the community park. It has piers on the water, bathrooms (keys at house) and a play ground The play area of the park. The boat launch and park. A lake sunset. Let's head back to the home and check it out. Crossing the bridge to get back to your home away from home. Looking up from the creek back towards the home. Looking from the fern deck to the home. This path is lighted at night time and controlled by a switch in the home. The path from the fern deck to the home is lighted at night. The decks all have rope lighting. Lots of room and privacy. Looking back towards the front of Creekside from the woods in front. It's time to go inside and check the interior of the home out. This is an interior rendering of the home. It is accurate down to furniture location. It's not a disappointment when you open the door and see the flowing floorplan. The television in the Living Room has cable as well as Netflix etc. The kitchen is well stocked and ready for you and your family or friends. The Master Bedroom. All bedrooms have T.V. and cable Looking from the doorway of the Master Bedroom. The Master Bathroom with tiled tub/shower unit. The second king room. with 32" flat screen. The dresser and T.V. with cable. The second bathroom off the kitchen and King Bedroom #2. The laundry area is adjacent to the dining area.

Property Description

Wake up and watch the deer, take a short walk to the deck overlooking the fern grove by the year round creek. Walk the dirt road to a pristine spring fed lake. Play in the community playground or walk the trails. You'll simply love Creekside.

Property Details

Creekside is the perfect property for those that want some room to spread out. As you appraoch through the gate and take your first corner on the driveway you'll see the house setting near the edge of a bluff. The home is neat, modern and well stocked for your stay.

Go in, unload and get ready to play. The property has several smaller trails that are perfect for supervised children to explore. Search for the spring that appears out the side of a hill and disappears again into the ground. See if the kids can find the conjoined tree. A tree connected by a big root where one side is dead and the other flourshing. Find the fern gardens and take note how much cooler it is with the springs feeding the ferns water.

One thing you'll notice is the bridge across the creek, which incidentally never runs dry. Cross the creek and you're on a dirt road that loops or takes you to the lake which is approx. 7/10th's of a mile away. Of course you'll want to continue exploring the property before venturing away.
Walk up the steep hill or go back a ways and take the easy hill.....you'll come up near the deck that overlooks what people have named "Fern Gulley". The walk back to the house area lights up at night so sitting on either of the two large decks is a matter of choice.
There are almost two climate zones on this property. firstly you have the lower wet lands and then the drier upper woodlands where you'll actually find species of cacti. We have also been told by a number of birders that the viewing is quite impressive.

Creekside has room to store and turn a trailer on the "sound" coleche driveway.

As always, we are a call or email away and are more than happy to answer any questions you may have.

This property has 1 King(s), 1 Pull Out Sofa(s), 1 King(s).

Wonderful Stay, Once Again by Dog Lover 01/05/2017
This property is perfect for a couple or a family retreat. The price can't be beat, and the home is always perfectly clean and ready for your arrival. It's a great place to unplug, if one wishes, there is cable tv and netflix! The kitchen is spacious, just ready for the family to cook meals or use the outdoor charcoal grill. Love it and the owners are great as well!
Very Peaceful and Relaxing by Anonymous 11/28/2016
We had a wonderful Thanksgiving stay. The cabin was remote, but not difficult to find thanks to the owner's directions. There are neighbors close by, but unless you wander through a wooded area to the back road behind the property and walk a ways, you would never know it! The lot is large, very private (locking gate at entrance) and very well kept. There are two decks; one large deck at the cabin, and another slightly smaller one close to the nearby running creek. Each deck has an ample number of chairs, a nice Weber grill, a table, and lighting options. The lighted path to the 2nd deck was a nice touch. The cabin was very nice and comfortable with two bedrooms with comfortable beds and two full-sized bathrooms. Everything was clean and well-maintained and all of the light switches were labeled, which was very helpful, especially with the outside lighting. There is also a fire pit just off the main deck with a good supply of wood and small starter logs.

One bit of advice here... As with all remote areas of East Texas, if you have AT&T as your cell carrier, the service is not good to nonexistent (Personally, I find this a plus-- it's supposed to be a getaway!). But the WiFi was very reliable and the owners have provided a LAN line with free long distance if needed.

We have stayed at quite a few HomeAway properties, and this one was definitely "as advertised" (no photo trickery on their site), and among the best-maintained and managed properties that we have been to. We do plan on returning next year!
Creekside by George G. 11/23/2016
This is the second time we have stayed at Creekside for Crockett's Christmas on the Square. This property is so much better than advertised. Super clean, super organized, and the communication on directions, entry information, etc. was perfect. It is an absolutely wonderful place to get away from it all and have some seclusion. Watching the deer in the morning is a great treat for us city dwellers. You need to stay here if it fits your needs. You will not be disappointed.
Peaceful by Debra R. 11/23/2016
It was just as it was advertised!! Beautiful surroundings and home! Loved that it was very private and peaceful! Definitely worth the trip to stay and explore!
Quiet solitude by Family Trip 10/28/2016
We actually stayed at a different one of Mark and Brenda's properties on the other side of the lake since our group was a little larger than originally planned and Brenda graciously moved us, so I can't comment on this particular cabin. We stayed in Henry's Hideaway and everything was perfect! We especially enjoyed the use of their kayaks. The weather was great in October, very few bugs to deal with, and the house itself was so clean and comfortable, it was an awesome stay! The property listed above is apparently more secluded on several acres with lake access but is not right on the lake. Mark and Brenda run a tip top business, so I am sure that this house is comfortable and clean as well, you can't go wrong with Vacation Country Rentals!
Better than described! by Linda T. 09/14/2016
What a wonderful Labor Day weekend at Creekside! If you are looking for a delightful 2 BR house that's secluded and totally private, look no further. The comfortable home is definitely "high end" with granite, new appearing appliances, and upgraded bathrooms. It was sparkling clean and everything was in perfect working order. An important factor was that the owners live nearby if they were needed. They weren't but it was reassuring to know that they were available. They are amazing property owners who know how to do things right. Creekside was a quiet place to unwind for a few days. We look forward to returning to when we can. If you book this property, you will NOT be disappointed.

Quaint, relaxing, nature lovers dream! by Sandra V. 05/11/2016

Quaint, cozy cottage by Anonymous 10/16/2015
This rental is a cozy, comfortable little cottage nestled in the Texas piney woods. Lots of nature surrounding it with neat trails and bridges. Heck, we even saw our first live Armadillo!! All in all it was an awesome stay and we would use it again if we come back to Crockett.

There were a couple of things we felt were misrepresented in the listing.

1. The rental is listed as 3 BR. It is 2 BR with a pull out couch.

2. The way we read the listing made it sound like trails led through the woods to the lake. There are a set of trails as mentioned above, but they lead to a dirt road that leads to the lake. The map graphic is a bit misleading as to its location as well.

That being said, the rental is still well worth the money spent and we had a WONDERFUL time.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for the review and comments. Unfortunately, Homeaway/VRBO require us to list beds as bedrooms in order for it to show a 6 person capacity. Your comments did make us take a closer look at the both web sites. We do have a 3D rendering of the interior layout of the home on both sites and we hoped that would help. Regardless, we will work on making it clearer on both sites that this home is a 2 bedroom with a pull out sofa. We did read though the site looking for verbiage regarding trails to the lake, we were unable to find anything suggesting that. There is a dirt road to the lake that is mentioned. Thanks for the heads up. We truly appreciate your feedback and we are glad you enjoyed your stay.
Bliss in the Woods by Adam R. 09/30/2015
This property is amazing! By far the best one I have stayed at on Homeaway. The cabin was even better than the description! From the pictures, I didn't quite understand how massive the property was. The inside of the cabin was very clean, and orderly. I loved all the instructions and directions. I would like to note how awesome it was to see so much wild life! When I first drove in I saw 4-5 White Tail Deer feeding! Amazing place. I have recommended this cabin to my family, and will be returning ASAP! Thank you Mark And Brenda!
Family getaway by Amanda J 09/21/2015

This was a great find for us, exactly what we were looking for. Secluded, quiet, and close enough to the water to enjoy some swimming. Property staff was very helpful and the property itself was immaculate. We will be coming back!!

This was our second trip to Creekside, and it won't be our last. The house was very clean and everything worked just fine. The property was well-maintained, and we enjoyed strolling the grounds with our dog. The peace and quiet was what we were looking for, and Creekside did not disappoint.

We arrived to a nice, clean cabin in the beautiful piney woods. by Steve 05/09/2014
We arrived to a nice, clean cabin in the beautiful piney woods. We enjoyed exploring the grounds with its creek, trees and ferns, relaxing in the hammock, and eating out on the deck. We would highly recommend this quiet, getaway place.
My husband and two kids stayed here for a spring break/anniversary getaway. by Melissa 03/09/2014
My husband and two kids stayed here for a spring break/anniversary getaway. The property is beautiful and peaceful. The home is very, very nice and clean. We have stayed in many different rental properties through the years and this one was by far the nicest. We enjoyed checking out the unique shops on the square in Crockett. We also drove out to Mission Tejas state park and did some hiking. We got some much needed family time and relaxation. Perfect getaway! We will be back!
After many years of coming to TX from Illinois and spending the week in a hotel, this year we rented the Creekside house. by Kathryn 03/01/2014
After many years of coming to TX from Illinois and spending the week in a hotel, this year we rented the Creekside house. What a great choice! The house and property were so comfortable and well appointed and the location was ideal for our needs. Can't imagine going back to a hotel. See you next year!
This is a lovely place to "get away". by John 02/28/2014
This is a lovely place to "get away". The only sound we could hear was the birds...very peaceful! This was our 2nd stay at Creekside and have stayed at one of the other properties also. Everything is clean, well stocked with kitchen needs, comfortable, and in beautiful wooded surroundings. It is almost exactly half way between Houston and Waco, which makes it a perfect place to meet with our friends of 30 years. We ate at Thompson's BBQ for Friday lunch, and it was fine. The owners were very personable. We "cooked in" the rest of weekend so have no other recommendations for dining this time. The Mercantile (antique store just off the square in town) is a lovely place to shop, and we have made a stop there on each of our visits to Crockett. The owner is delightful to talk to. We look forward to a return visit to Creekside.
My wife and I were joined by another couple from Plainview, and the house and property fit our needs perfectly. by Sid 10/03/2013
My wife and I were joined by another couple from Plainview, and the house and property fit our needs perfectly. The listing description was spot on, and the photos gave a good idea of what the property looked like. The house was very clean and inviting, and all of the appliances and mechanical systems worked without a flaw. The property is very well maintained, and all of the personal touches make this a very relaxing place to unwind. We loved it.
